Labour Market Information (LMI)

What is Labour Market Information (LMI)?

LMI effectively describes the world of work – it ranges from descriptions of different careers, their entry routes, promotional prospects, salaries paid, skills and qualifications needed, etc.

Crucially for young people, LMI also covers future demand – what kinds of jobs will be in demand after leaving school and what kinds of skills will be needed.

Why is it important?

Understanding LMI is becoming more and more important as the world changes, so that all students can be aware of different job roles that are needed around the country and what types of jobs may need more people in the future.

The specific information you can gain from considering national, regional and local LMI include:

  • education and training providers suitable for your career preferences
  • expected salaries
  • career opportunities
  • economic conditions
  • the skills required by industries in different locales
  • the prominence of private and public sector workforces
  • future trends in the professional landscape.

Using this information can help individuals choose subject options and career paths that align with future opportunities. Students can find LMI on the ‘careers library’ section of unifrog (their online career platform). You can also find information on these websites:
