ICT
Oaklands students have password protected access to the school intranet and the internet. They have areas to store their work and have access to a bank of resources to help their learning and understanding. For internet access we have an acceptable us policy which students are expected to follow at all times. We also expect parents to play their part in monitoring the internet usage at home. Each morning students are able to access the network from 7.45am to complete and or print out their coursework or homework. Further research can be done on the network most lunchtimes or at Study Support after school. We have two technical staff to support the department. In addition a group of students are trained to troubleshoot problems. In years 7 and 8 students have one discreet ICT lesson each week. In year 9 students have two lessons per week. Additionally many other subjects book the ICT classrooms or laptop trolley to meet the requirements. In KS4 pupils can opt to follow a vocational ICT course (DIDA, DIDA or AIDA). This has proved to be successful with pupils achieving very high grades. Pupils who do not opt for this course continue to develop their ICT key skills and will aim to pass the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
