HISTORY

The History Department consists of two full time teachers each with their own room equipped with an interactive whiteboard.  This enables teachers to use images, film, sound bites and traditional printed resources to help stimulate pupils' interest in history and to give pupils the opportunity to investigate historical issues and to acquire understanding of historical interpretations.

At present the content of the KS3 curriculum is determined by the programmes of study of the National Curriculum ranging from ‘The Medieval Realms' through to ‘The Twentieth Century World'.  There are also special focuses on ‘Chartism', The Native Americans', ‘Trench Warfare' (leading to a visit to the battlefield and war cemeteries of Ypres in Belgium) and ‘The Holocaust'.

The chosen syllabus for KS4 is Edexcel's GCSE in History A: Modern European and World History (1334) which includes both outline and in depth studies of the USSR, USA and Vietnam.  The coursework element of the syllabus consists of two assignments: ‘Law and Order in the 19th Century', ‘Jack the Ripper' and ‘Votes for Women'.

The History Department aims to help pupils use historical sources, information and evidence to draw conclusions and to promote an understanding of the different patters of change over time as well as providing pupils with an understanding of the different types of causes and consequences.
