DRAMA
Drama is taught to all students in Key Stage 3 and offered as an option at GCSE. The subject is taught in well a equipped and comfortable space in which we work collaboratively to create a safe and welcoming environment. In the department we aim to teach students a range of specialist drama skills and techniques whilst also encouraging their personal and social development. Students are taught in mixed ability classes and are expected to build good working relationships with each other. Students are encouraged to bring their own ideas, concerns and experiences to their drama work whilst developing a deeper understanding of the perspectives of others, and of the world in which they live. We aim to help this by using stimuli from a wide range of sources and by encouraging students to develop their own original, hi quality work. We value the liks we have made with other departments and challenge students to bring knowledge and ideas from other subjects to the drama room. We work closely with the English and music departments and, in conjunction with the languages department, have recently developed a bi-lingual performance project. We regularly host TIE workshops and performances and have strong links with the local theatres like The Half Moon Theatre and The Theatre Royal Stratford East and The Almeide. We have also worked on projects with national organisations like the Royal National Theatre and The Schools' Shakespeare Festival.
