KS4

Our aim is to provide a curriculum that is broad, balanced and inclusive.

At KS4 all pupils study a core curriculum of:

  • English (Language and Literature)
  • Citizenship, Personal and Social Education (CPSE)
  • Maths
  • Physical education (PE)
  • Religious Education (RE)
  • Science (Double or Biology, Chemistry and Physics)

In addition pupils choose a combination of academic and vocational optional subjects. In 2007/08 the list of optional subjects was:

  • Art GCSE
  • Applied Art GCSE (double award)
  • Bengali GCSE
  • Drama GCSE
  • Design Technology GCSE
  • French GCSE
  • History GCSE
  • Humanities GCSE
  • Information Communication Technology DiDA
  • Media Studies GCSE
  • Spanish GCSE
  • Sports Science OCR National

All lessons are designed to challenge pupils of all abilities. Pupils are usually grouped in mixed ability groups except for Maths and Science. Pupils with special educational needs are supported by additional staff in class and may receive appropriate extra tuition. Pupils are entered early for examinations as is appropriate.

Pupils are expected to complete a considerable amount of coursework on a regular basis and ensure they meet deadlines.
