ART
The Art Department is committed to providing an art curriculum that is relevant to the wider contemporary world. Pupils are introduced to art forms from around the world, such as Japanese prints, Mexican folk art and Aboriginal art, in order to give them a foundation on which they can build upon. They are also given a thorough understanding of contemporary graphic design and illustration so that pupils have skills which they can apply directly to an art based career. Pupils are given the opportunity to work in a wide variety of media fro paint to clay, and from ICT to textiles. Students are also supported through after-hours clubs and workshops that focus on both their school work and external art competitions that build on the relationships the Department has built up with working artists and local companies. Our ethos is that all pupils can achieve in art. Pupils are given solid structures on which they can improve both their art and their ability to critically evaluate their own art, that of their peers, and other working artists. At KS3 pupils study Art for 2 lessons each week in mixed ability groups. In KS4 pupils can choose to study either GCSE Art or a Vocational Art course (GNVQ).
