RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The RE Department at Oaklands School teaches the main faiths and beliefs of Britain, not only to inform students about their local community but the global community.  Opportunities are given at every occasion for students to reflect on their own beliefs and how they affect their behaviour and relationships.

Units are planned using the Tower Hamlets Agreed Syllabus, making sure the beliefs of the local community are represented fairly in lessons.

The department uses a mixture of learning activities to cover the curriculum including journal writing, poetry, research, play script writing, artefact handling and fieldtrips.  ICT is becoming more integrated with the teaching of RE because the classroom has been fully equipped with an interactive whiteboard.

All students at KS4 will study full course (Edexcel) GCSE RE, sitting the half course component at the end of Year 10.  This consists of a study of various issues from a Christian and Muslim **.  In Year 11, students study Islam, its beliefs and values.
