MEDIA
Media plays a critical role in our society. Whether informing, entertaining or selling products, forms of media surround us all every day, influencing our opinions and patterns of behaviour. At Oaklands pupils can choose to study GCSE Media Studies in Years 10 & 11. What does this involve? In Media Studies we investigate a range of media (advertising, newspapers, websites, radio, television, film and music) and learn about the processes of their production. We analyse how media texts influence and are influenced by the audiences they're created for, and how they can embody influential attitudes and messages. Students create their own media texts, increasingly using digital technology and computer programmes, and the course covers the key concepts on which further study of Media at A level and beyond is based. The GCSE grade is determined by: - 50% coursework
- 50% terminal exam
