Oaklands School is a smaller than average-sized secondary school of 800 11-19 learners.
We are a fully international school with 30 links worldwide in Europe particularly Scandinavia, Africa, Bangladesh, Syria and Africa.
The percentage of students supported by the pupil premium (67%) funding is much higher than average (24%). Around a fifth of the student population in Year 7 is eligible for the Year 7 catch-up premium.
A much higher proportion of students than average speak English as an additional language (70% compared to national proportion of 18%) The proportion of students from minority ethnic backgrounds is much higher than average. The largest group are of Bangladeshi heritage.
Oaklands’ specialism are Science and MFL
Oaklands has been in the top 10% of schools nationally for progress for the last 5 years
Oaklands has been the highest performing mixed-school in Tower Hamlets for a few years
This year, 80% of our GCSE grades were at 4 or higher and one third of all grades were at 7, 8 or 9 (compared to 23% nationally)
Science at Oaklands is in the top 3% in the UK
Languages (Spanish, French and Bengali) at Oaklands are in the top 2% in the UK
We are one of the highest attaining Sixth Forms (16-19) in Tower Hamlets
The Headteacher is a National Leader of Education (NLE) and was awarded an OBE in November 2015 for her services to education by the Queen. The school is a National Support School (NSS), providing support to other schools. All three Deputy Heads have NPQH status.
