Religious Education gives the opportunity to learn why people should be treated with respect, tolerance and understanding through faith. At KS3, students have one lesson a week. The study of beliefs is undertaken and the six major world religions: Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism.
At Key Stage 3, Re and PSHE are compulsory and studied for one session. Students also have the opportunity of doing the GCSE RE Full Course. This specification is studied in three sessions and examines religion and ethics based on a study of Islam and Christianity in Year 10, and Peace and Conflict based on a study of Islam in Year 11. RE uses the Edexcel Specification B syllabus at GCSE.
